About Akura

Built for the uncertainty between seeing the opportunity and knowing how to pursue it.

Founders are rarely short of ambition or willingness to work. They are often short of experienced operating support at the moment when the company’s most consequential decisions still have to be made with incomplete information.

Akura exists to help founders move through those moments without having to learn every avoidable lesson through lost time.

Thesis

We work where market change meets founder insight and company momentum.

Akura works with founders and companies at inflection points.

That may begin with an idea grounded in direct experience, a market change or a technical possibility that deserves proper validation. It may also begin with a product, customer signal or established capability that is creating a larger opportunity than the existing company was built to pursue.

An inflection point is the moment when new information changes what the company could reasonably become.

The founder can see that the old plan is no longer sufficient, but may not yet know which interpretation is correct or where to commit. Akura helps reach that answer sooner and build the product, operating capability and commercial route the opportunity requires.

Beliefs

What we believe about company building.

A serious problem or market change matters more than a polished pitch.

An idea should be tested before a large amount of company is built around it.

The first market should be narrow enough for the founder to reach and understand directly.

Early evidence should be allowed to change the product, customer and company.

Some mistakes create knowledge, while others only consume time that better guidance could have protected.

Founders need people willing to share responsibility for the work, not only offer opinions from a distance.

The company’s first market or product does not have to define the limit of what it can become.

Equity should reflect meaningful responsibility for the outcome.

Interesting companies do not all begin in fashionable sectors, familiar networks or conventional venture forms.

Small is a stage, not a ceiling.

Operator network

Selective, experienced and close to the work.

Akura is not a directory of consultants.

We work with a small network of operators and specialists who can contribute directly to product, technology, design, revenue, research and market execution when a company requires that capability.

The network is brought into an engagement because a defined piece of company-building work requires it.

The relationship remains with Akura, and Akura remains responsible for ensuring that specialist work supports the direction of the company rather than becoming another disconnected stream of activity.

Community impact

Companies that become more can create more for the people around them.

Akura’s work is ultimately measured by the companies it helps build.

We are interested in businesses that solve recognisable problems, create useful products, employ people and strengthen the markets and communities around them.

Scale matters because it increases what a good company is capable of doing.

It should follow from solving something important well, rather than becoming a substitute for the company creating real value.
